Did you read our last blog "4 reasons why affirmations are so powerful"? It is a must-read. Did you recite your affirmations today? Please take a break and do your daily affirmations if have not already.
Let's talk about the subconscious mind and how affirmations affect it. Do you remember your first attempt to learn a dance move? Most times our first attempt to synchronize a new set of complex actions are always difficult. Once we become more skilled, these movements start to require less conscious awareness until everything begins to flow naturally. These movements are guided by the subconscious mind. For example, when first learning to drive, you are always looking at what gear you are changing to, what pedals you press, and which mirror you are using but when you become used to driving you no longer take note of these things because it's all in your subconscious mind. You are now being guided by your subconscious thoughts.
Intentionally reciting affirmations daily, affects our subconscious mind in similar ways, lets take a look below.
Firstly, It helps you overcome limiting beliefs. Limiting beliefs makes you doubt your potential. As your subconscious mind has been made to have these limiting beliefs, it is very likely to have an impact on you as an individual. When you continue to recite positive affirmations, your subconscious mind keeps it and you gradually begin to believe it and act like it, without a second thought. For example, if you believed you couldn’t achieve any goal you set and you start reciting affirmations like “Yes I can, I’m an achiever, I don’t give up” As you recite this every day, your subconscious mind processes it and you gradually act the way you believe. Your subconscious mind is like a garden any seed you plant there, will fertilize and grow. If you plant a good seed you will have a good harvest. This is why it is important to recite your affirmations every day, you have to train your mind.
Secondly, It reshapes your thoughts. Your subconscious mind is like the auto-pilot feature on an airplane. It has been pre-programmed to follow a specific route and you cannot deviate from that route unless you change the directions programmed into it first. Your subconscious mind may have existing thoughts that affect the way you act as an individual. If someone says something to you which is not aligned with what is in your subconscious mind, your subconscious mind rejects it. This makes change become difficult. When you repeatedly recite affirmations, you are telling your subconscious mind to accept what you are saying. With time your subconscious mind will accept it and it will begin to manifest. For example, you thought you are not beautiful because that's what your subconscious mind has been made to believe. When you begin to affirm that you are beautiful, your subconscious mind will gradually process it and then replace it with your not-beautiful thought. Kinda cool right? And you can do this for literally anything...what you believe you can achieve.
Lastly, It reshapes your habits. Your habit is a routine you go through every day and that's fueled by your subconscious mind. You are what you think. You tend to have certain habits because of what your subconscious mind stores. You bite your fingernails when you feel anxious hence immediately you start biting your fingernails, your subconscious mind processes your anxious feelings to fuel the habit. This also happens vice versa. Some adults tend to pee on themselves when they are scared. Anytime they have any feeling of fear they pee unintentionally because the subconscious mind associates fear with that habit.
Reciting affirmations on a regular basis will affect your subconscious mind and eventually reshape your habits. When you affirm that “You are not afraid of anything”, your subconscious mind will process it, and when it accepts that you won’t repeat the habit of peeing on yourself when you are scared. The power of affirmations allows the subconscious mind to help reshape your habits.
In short, Your subconscious mind has immense power in controlling your life experiences: from the actions you take each day to the types of food you eat, the level of income you earn, and even how you react to stressful situations. Right now you’re primarily using your conscious mind to read these words and absorb their meaning, but beneath that mental focus, your subconscious mind is busily working behind the scenes, absorbing or rejecting information based on an existing perception you have of the world around you. Your subconscious mind soaks in information like a sponge. Most of these perceptions are formed from infancy.
Affirmations can help you alter subconscious thoughts. Repeating a supportive, encouraging phrase gives it power since hearing something often makes it more likely you'll believe it. In turn, your belief makes it more likely you'll act in ways that make your affirmation become reality.
